Summary: | Automation and robotics in manufacturing have emerged as unique tools to help businesses increase productivity and improve quality and consistency. In the next decade, automated machines will begin to make their mark in construction, mining and other challenging outdoor environments. Machine automation will take several forms, ranging from in-cab operator aids, to cab-less drone machines. These automated machines will execute tasks faster, more consistently and more safely than their human-operated counterparts. The driving force for automation is the need to reduce operating costs and increase productivity on the construction site and in the mine. A common means for a manufacturer to enter the automated-machine field is to begin equipping machines with operator aids. The next phase of machine automation will be patterned after the work-cell concept, which is at the heart of automated manufacturing in many of today's factories. |
