Summary: | [...]recently, American corporations have been reluctant to engage in controversial social issues for fear that they might offend potential customers. During the Obama administration, Crapo fought against "Operation Choke Point," an initiative that allowed federal regulators to tell banks not to deal with certain disfavored merchants, like gun stores, in order to "choke off" these merchants' access to payments systems and banking services. Contrary to our national reputation as a paradise for those that want to openly carry weapons, Texas bankers have views on the issue that range from open encouragement to full prohibition within the bank. Since the concealed carry laws were passed in 1995, many banks in our rural areas have not placed notices outside their entrances lest they offend some of their customers. |
