Summary: | Certainly there have been so many mixed signals from major-league sports leagues and franchises that you cannot blame the locals for wondering what to believe. NBA Commissioner David Stern is an admitted pal of Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, and Stern made the final judgment that the city would be a sensational location for next year's All-Star Game. Practically everyone in sports took the All-Star decision as a signal that Stern was easing America toward the idea of putting a franchise in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Events president Pat Christenson believes that the NBA is Vegas' best hope for major-league sports, in part because a downtown arena also would be practical for all the other attractions that are lured to the city. |
