Summary:This paper attempts to make a broad assessment of the state of the Caribbean tourism industry as part of general efforts to pursue engines of growth to boost growth and stability in the sluggish economies of the region. While tourism is important to the region as a whole, there is much variation in its importance in individual countries. In most of the countries, whether they are traditional tourism-led countries or not, there is a recognition of the importance and potential of this industry. There is therefore a common interest in understanding the performance conditions and factors impacting this industry.
