description Although many different executives succeed with what appear to be completely distinct management styles, there are certain consistencies that are common to successful managers. Leadership is the primary quality needed to manage effectively. Whether through personal example, persuasion, or by understanding the motivations of others, a good leader has the ability to guide others toward goals that they can realistically achieve. An effective manager must also be able to: 1. analyze situations, 2. make decisions and take risks, 3. communicate effectively, 4. command respect from others, 5. delegate and motivate, 6. be consistent and fair, and 7. encourage growth in others as well as oneself. The best managers are those who thoroughly understand their inherent strengths and limitations. Then, they build a team by doing what they do best and hiring others whose strengths complement their limitations.
