Summary: | SaskPower Corp. (Saskatchewan, Canada) began contracting out its electric meter testing and repair work to Schlumberger Industries on October 6, 1988. This approach has been implemented in many areas, including power line maintenance and construction and power plant maintenance. It has enabled the utility to reduce its direct employed staff by 27%. One of the reasons the utility decided to contract out this work was the need for extremely heavy capital expenditure for state-of-the-art meter laboratory equipment. Along with its primary function of testing and repair, Schlumberger Industries intends to offer a full range of meter-related services, including specialty product manufacturing, recorder translation service, load surveys, service and installation audits, engineering consultation, equipment leasing, training, and test equipment maintenance. |
