Summary:In healthcare, stark statistics on the lack of diversity in the workforce are as familiar as they are troubling. As the US evolves and minority populations continue to grow, it is more essential than ever that hospitals take the lead in a collective movement to increase diversity in healthcare. Slowly but significantly, healthcare organizations are beginning to make headway. At Catholic Health Initiatives, promoting diversity is one of the ways they live out their core value of reverence. Diversity starts at the top with hospital boards and senior leadership. Healthcare in this country is the best in the world -- but not for every citizen. But with collective action from the entire healthcare community, the author believes people can promote diversity in both perception and outcomes.
