Summary: | The Tradstat online database includes import and export statistics on over 60,000 products from 19 countries and their trading partners, representing about 85% of world trade. Data-Star, Europe's largest online information service, acquired Tradstat in 1986. Tradstat's trade data tapes come directly from official government statistical or customs offices and are placed online weeks or months before the printed sources become available. The data on the 60,000 products are arranged according to detailed product codes. After choosing the appropriate product code, users of Tradstat must then choose one of the 24 report formats that meets their need for trade data. Because the main emphasis of Tradstat is on single-product retrieval, it is not intended to be used for monitoring industry-level activity. There are several online and print sources of import-export data, including PIERS (Port Import/Export Reporting Service) from Journal of Commerce Inc. |
