Description
Summary:An executive information system (EIS), similar in function to a business partner, can store and combine data for help in problem solving, handle routine administrative tasks, and facilitate executive disciplines. Elements of an EIS include: 1. a non-keyboard interface to simplify computer use, 2. access to outside databases, 3. access to internal information, 4. electronic mail, 5. exception reporting, 6. time-series information for the tracking of trends, and 7. modeling tools. EIS software can execute "what if" calculations to demonstrate the effect of changes in inventory levels, sales prices, and interest rates. EIS decision support functions include projections of profitability and cash flow as well as sensitivity analyses and budget generators. These systems range in cost from $2,000 to $20,000 per executive and enable better analyses of past performance as well as improved projections of future performance.
