Summary: | Object oriented programming is not a cure-all technology for the problems of information systems (IS) application development. Recent publicity for the technology heralds it as a simple software solution. It has provided many benefits, but it still has to live up to its expectations. Building applications is still a time-consuming and difficult process. Several aspects of object-oriented programming make it less than the ideal solution to applications development: it requires upkeep, maintaining its purity is difficult and though it eliminates redundancy, IS departments need to launch a massive analysis effort to determine what code to keep and reuse. |
