Description
Summary:Service learning is a teaching method that integrates community service with academic study. By combining formal study of a traditional discipline with substantive community service, the student's learning process is enhanced while the service agency benefits from the fresh ideas and work of students. Marketing courses seem particularly suited to service learning. For example, service learning allows students to apply marketing tools and concepts to social problems and issues and to appreciate their limitations. Different formats can be used to integrate service learning into a marketing course. For example, the service-learning component can be added to a marketing strategy course, allowing students to act in the capacity of marketing consultants. An example of service learning is presented.
