Summary: | Hares Canyon State Park will feature more than 10 miles of looped trails, which will connect to the larger Banks-Veronia Linear Trail. It will have group camping areas, recreational vehicle camping, equestrian camping and trails, hike-in camping for scouting groups and others, and picnic areas. The exchange involved dozens and dozens of parcels in order to consolidate the 1,800 acres under the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, [Gerald Kubiak] said. The park draws its name from its most prominent topographical feature, Hares Canyon, Kubiak said. The canyon was named for Joseph C. Hare, a farmer, rancher and first mayor Hillsboro, who logged in the area around the turn of the 20th century. |
