Description
Summary:Force measurements show similarities in static torque and feed force between wet and dry drilling. However, the shear forces when drilling dry are slightly higher than those of wet drilling. The reason is that the emulsion of the coolant provides a lubricating effect and serves to minimize adhesive sticking and microwelding on the drill lands. Because in dry machining there is no cooling emulsion to carry heat away, temperatures rise in the chip as well as in the tool.
