Description
Summary:When it comes to using language effectively, most people do not; instead, they tend to obfuscate, or seek out the most mystifying words and phrases possible. While many people abstract phrases to make them sound impressive, others are simply callous and careless of expression. Corporate writers often construct messages backwards, putting their real purposes last. However, if a memo states its purpose at the beginning, comprehension time decreases dramatically. A long-term cure for all of the misuses of the English language in corporations depends on reducing tensions inherent in superior-subordinate communications. Most writing insecurities stem from failures on the part of superiors to communicate their willingness to accept bottom-line messages from subordinates. When planning an important communication, the focus should be on the language, which governs thought, persuasion, emotions, and the perception of character, attitudes, and values.
