Summary:A modern well-equipped truck will consume between 60 to 80 amps of electricity. That's more than double the amperage trucks used to consume only 10 years ago. In addition to driver comfort accessories, there is a proliferation of onboard computers and various by-wire systems transferring from a mechanical to an electrical command and contributing to your trucks' "power meters" speeding up. This increase in the use of electrical power generates real and important costs for modern fleets. However, these are costs that are possible to control. This is why more and more fleets are putting electrical power management programs into place. According Midtronics' David VonderHaar, there is a growing number of electrical devices used by drivers, with the help of a power inverter. The problem with these inverters is that drivers tend to forget them, using electrical accessories up until the truck's batteries are completely drained. Before you know it, it's impossible to start the truck the next morning.
