Description
Summary:This article deals with learning in work collectives, especially skill development and transmission inside mediator teams (urban mediators, who work in stations or in difficult city areas). We show that mediators use tacit skills, which are embedded in the situation they are confronted with. First were distinguished different kinds of situations mediators have to deal with, and different kinds of competence they use in those situations. These competencies are situated, that is to say part of the action, and can be revealed only during situation, Secondly, light was shed on the transmission of these tacit competencies. This approach is linked to the situated learning perspective. The emphasis is put on the fact that competence and tacit knowledge are transmitted by the socialization processes. These processes enable the transmission of competencies and in part their articulation: an articulation within a context. The perspective is not that of Nonaka and Takeuchi's (1995): socialization and articulation processes are not opposed. Both are used, in context, by mediators, to transmit their competence and tacit knowledge.
