Summary: | A recent survey on trends in facilities engineering revealed some interesting contradictions. The bad news is that outsourcing and downsizing appear here to stay. On the positive side, however, most plant and facilities engineers do not appear to be overly concerned about losing their jobs. The survey of 500 facilities engineering professionals, conducted by the Association for Facilities Engineering, found that roughly half the respondents experienced downsizing or outsourcing of some functions from their departments within the past year. Nearly 70% believe these activities will increase in the coming years. Despite these ominous trends, almost 75% of those responding said they were not concerned with losing their jobs. Their explanations for this attitude were similar. They are not concerned because that feel they are consistently and undeniably demonstrating their worth to their employers. |
