Description
Summary:The proliferation of wage and hour lawsuits brought by employees seeking to recover allegedly unpaid overtime, minimum wages, spread-of-hours pay, uniform allowances and meal credits from employers is one of the hottest issues in employment law today. Even in individual actions, the amount of damages awarded has the potential to be ruinous for a small business. Sometimes, violations of the wage and hour laws occur because employers and business owners are not aware of the requirements of the applicable laws. In addition, many employers and business owners do not appreciate the consequences of failing to comply with the wage and hour laws until it is too late. An accountant has the opportunity to add value for his client by identifying potential issues the client might wish to discuss with a labor and employment attorney.
