Summary: | Although corporate responsibility (CR) as a concept has been around for at least 15 years, as a practice within organizations, it is still very new. There was a definite demand for comprehensive, practical benchmarking research examining how CR functions operate within organizations. To meet this need, in Oct 2005 Melcrum Publishing organized the Corporate Responsibility Research Forum for CR practitioners, which produced a launch research report, How to structure the corporate responsibility function. The research was a mixture of quantitative and qualitative studies. The results show that CR functions are generally centralized in headquarters, either as part of its own standalone department or as part of another central department. Taken together, it means that almost half of CR functions are located in the corporate center. What is clear from the data is that the CR function still finds the goal of embedding corporate responsibility in the organization somewhat elusive. |
