description A decade ago, Stephen had spearheaded the launch of our successful Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program, which teams THR with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and Loyola Marymount University to offer high school girls powerful female mentors in Hollywood. Since 2009, the WIE program has provided $7.8 million in college scholarships and made an immeasurable impact on the lives of hundreds of girls (and mentors). How do we fix this? I'm no expert on the subject, but I believe a major challenge in attempting to diversify an industry that for decades has been unwilling to do so is that there's no clear pipeline for future leaders. Guided by an advisory board of industry leaders and education experts (page 16), 20 handpicked L.A. high school students - all chosen through a competitive process and all with a passion for entertainment - will be provided with a unique curriculum, mentors, internships and, for some, college scholarships.
