Summary: | The historic uses of separate mobile wireless technologies for cellular voice and for limited, low-speed data are giving way to higher-speed data services and to operator plans for even higher-capacity converged mobile services. With broadband access, users get accustomed to rapid page loads, and to quickly exchanging more and larger files. The beauty of fixed wireless applications is that the right combination of frequency and antenna gain can almost always lead to satisfactory performance, as long as certain variables are taken into account. Mobile video is one of the key revenue -- generating applications anticipated by many network operators. Video services obviously put a strain on networks of any form because the data objects involved are both large and time-bounded. The secret to mobile broadband wireless access becoming the default connectivity for many (if not most) will be improving its capacity. |
