Summary: | U.S. exports to Latin America continued to grow in 1978 and are expected to total $20 billion when final figures are in. Shipments of U.S. goods in 1979 should easily top $21 billion. The favorable impact the world currency realignments continues to be an important factor influencing the U.S. trade outlook in Latin America. U.S. sales to the Andean Common Market (ANCON) and Chile were estimated at $6.7 billion in 1978 and should make similar gains in 1979 despite strong competition from European, Japanese, and some Latin Amercian nations. Reports indicate that the following regions in Latin America hold significant trade opportunities for U.S. exporters in 1979: 1. Caribbean, 2. Argentina, 3. Central America, 4. Brazil, 5. Mexico, and 6. Panama. |
