Summary: | Canada, importing $36 billion in US goods, is the largest trading partner of the US. Sales to Canada's provincial and federal government agencies have exceeded $30 billion in recent years. US firms can compete for this market by determining what government standards are applicable to the products to be sold. US businesses expanding into Canada must always remember that the Canadian market deserves separate consideration and a separate sales strategy. Part of that strategy must cope with Canada's geographic and demographic patterns. Another challenge is dealing with Canada's official bilingualism. Product labeling and advertising must consider the cultural as well as legal ramifications of bilingualism. US products must be designed, described, and promoted in terms of the metric system. The export opportunities according to geographic location are described. |
