Summary: | Geographic information systems (GISs) are capable of analyzing the landscape data required of presenting viable landfill siting options. A case study of the application of GIS to siting concerns addresses the siting of a landfill outside of Rochester, NY. The primary stage involved the collection of legal and administrative criteria. The second stage addressed the technical criteria. Nine sites were compared and ranked for these criteria. The GIS contributed to making comparative maps at a relevant scale. |
