Summary: | It is becoming increasingly obvious that effective data governance requires clear identification of the types of sensitive data within an organization. This article explores the evolving risks and "drivers" that have arisen in the past year demanding more and better data governance. Since data governance is a risk mitigation exercise, the construction of a risk tolerance profile will often depend on guidance from an organization's board of directors. New technologies continue to embed themselves in daily organizational life. Business lawyers, particularly those whose practice includes issues of cyberspace, recognize that disruptive technologies create opportunities for companies that adopt them early, put them to good use, but also keep a wary, watchful eye on the risks that accompany them or that their extensive use unexpectedly spawns. The 2006 year in review continued to amply demonstrate the risks associated with the use of technology. |
