Summary:In Germany in the 1960s the majority of Autobahns were two-lane dual carriageways. Traffic through the Ruhr valley heading north to Hanover and beyond was always heavy. At that time I drove 70-tonne military low loaders. I recall that at least 50 miles of the route between Düsseldorf and Bielefeld was a no-overtaking area for trucks. It was rigidly enforced. Many other strategic routes had and still do have the same restrictions not only in Germany but Holland and France as well.
