Summary:Resilience: the ability to recover quickly from misfortune; buoyancy; bouncing back. Resilience is what the hospitality, association, and meetings industries demonstrated after September 11 by taking charge and leading all of the business groups in helping New York City begin the long recovery process. Loews spent six to eight weeks - all day and many nights - dealing with how it was going to keep its employees employed, its guests safe, customers informed, and the business alive. A resilient spirit pervaded the industry and its people. One lesson from this experience is that the hospitality industry provides an environment in which resiliency can flourish.
