Summary: | Medium sized banks often are pressured to make every loan that they can. As a result, banks that do not have an autonomous loan review function can be at risk. Before establishing a reporting system, a bank must determine: 1) what the loan review function should accomplish; 2) what the scope of the loan review should be; 3) what level of expertise can be hired; and 4) who can manage the function and keep it independent. The loan review function should be adjusted as the bank grows, as risk changes, and as regulations change. |
