Description
Summary:Power magazine expanded its annual awards program this year by giving more credit where credit is due. Rather than rank the top plants in several categories - nuclear, gas turbine, coal-fired, and so on - it took a more holistic approach. For 2003 it is recognizing those plants that stand out for a particular reason, such as: 1. pioneering deployment of a new technology, 2. environmental stewardship, or 3. use of innovative business practices. A total of 12 exceptional plants were chosen for special recognition. The 2003 Power Plant of the Year and Marmaduke Awards will be announced next month. The Marmaduke Award, named after the legendary plant troubleshooter whose exploits have been chronicled in Power since 1948, recognizes OM excellence at existing power plants. Winners will receive an invitation to the Global Energy Awards ceremony at The Plaza Hotel in New York City on December 12, 2003.
