The main reason has been a new sense of teamwork fostered by a wholesale cultural change. Today, every employee feels a sense of ownership in the plant and a responsibility to keep it operating as efficiently, reliably, and safely as possible. Many of the changes made at FitzPatrick are equally applicable to fossil-fueled plants. FitzPatrick's recent performance and safety records bear witness to the improvement. Over the past four years, the plant's generation, capacity factor, and safety numbers are much higher than they had previously been.
