Summary: | New proposals for tax reform, introduced following the German elections in November, have sparked fears that the continuing growth experienced by the German aircraft leveraged lease market in recent years may have reached its peak. The annual volume of the German leveraged lease market increased by several hundred percent to about $2 billion until the end of 1996, and nearly doubled its volume again in 1997. In 1998, the volume reached a new record of about $5 billion. The structure of a typical GLL is outlined, and the latest proposals by the federal ministry of finance are discussed. |
