description This year's Investors' and Operators' polls come at a time when manufacturers and airlines are charting unknown waters. Airbus is looming large behind Boeing. The year also saw increased airline competition on the back of deregulation and dramatic falls in demand from Southeast Asian carriers as the financial crisis wreaked havoc with regional economies. Airfinance Journal's 1998 poll of financiers, lessors and airlines reveals prejudices and preferences in a market that is becoming more unpredictable. For the third consecutive year, the 737-300 has swept the board, winning both the Investors' and Operators' polls. The Boeing narrowbody maintained an impressive lead in both polls, scoring 8.85 and 8.55, respectively. Other survey results are discussed.
