Summary: | In reaction, the President's elections lawyer finds the filing of another impeachment complaint an exercise in futility. Romulo Macalintal said the latest complaint exposes the weakness of the one filed on Monday and the proponents' "lack of knowledge of the correct date of filing the complaint." Mrs. [Arroyo]'s legal counsel Mr. Macalintal has argued that the impeachment complaint filed on Monday by various personalities does not contain anything new, save for the inclusion of Proclamation 1017, EO 464 and the calibrated preemptive response policy already declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. He also argued the complaint could not move forward because the complaint filed last year was still active. This is because the case filed before the Supreme Court by House opposition members contesting the House of Representatives' decision to junk last year's impeachment complaint is still pending. |
