According to Mario, during the last election campaign, he accompanied a senatorial candidate all over the country and never saw any reason to fear for his life. That makes a lot of sense. The US has the largest concentration of Filipinos outside of the Philippines. They have emotional bonds with our country, they have buying power, and the peso-dollar exchange rate makes a visit to the Philippines even more advantageous for them. They are also aware that the lair of the Abu Sayyaf is many hours removed from Luzon and the Visayas, where a lot of the interesting action is happening.
