Summary:Shell officials met with President Estrada last Friday to inform him that Malampaya 5, the first of the five wells under the development drilling program, confirmed the presence of oil reserves in the Malampaya gas field. Spex started the development of five new wells within the area last February and is expected to complete these early 2001. "Malampaya well 5 is a very important well for Spex. It is through this well that Spex will be able to determine the properties of the well and check the thickness of the oil present in the reservoir. If it is thick enough, there is a possibility of having a separate oil development," David Greer, Spex managing director, earlier said.
