COMMON CARRIER FREIGHT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT PUBLISHED RATES AND OVER ASSIGNED ROUTES, WHILE CONTRACT CARRIERS OPERATE UNDER CONTINUING CONTRACT TO PARTICULAR SHIPPERS. LOCAL TRUCKING AND PRIVATE CARRIERS WHOSE SERVICES ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ARE EXCLUDED. THE EFFECTS OF THE ENERGY-CRISIS ON PRODUCTIVITY IN THIS INDUSTRY CANNOT AS YET BE FULLY DETERMINED. IN SHORT, OUTPUT PER EMPLOYEE MAY BE ADVERSLY AFFECTED BY DELAYS RESULTING FROM A SCARCITY OF FUEL AND LOWER SPEED LIMIT. |
