Description
Summary:The recycling of wood wastes is addressed in this analysis of waste sources and disposition in the US. The amounts generated, recovered, and available for recovery are reported for wood wastes from municipal, construction/demolition, and timber processing sources. These sources together generated 162.4 million tons of waste in 1998, of which 18% was suitable for recovery, or about 13% of all timber products produced. Of the recoverable wood, 41% was derived from municipal wastes, 53% from C&D wastes, and only 6% from timber processing residues. A sharp decline in wood available for recovery (from 42.3 to 29.6 million tons) is attributed to reductions in the disposal of woody wastes and wooden pallets.
