Summary:Notably absent from this year's Paris air show order announcements were Chinese carriers. As the US-China trade war ramps up, it appears that the latter's airlines are reticent about placing orders for aircraft. Weeks after Paris, however, in mid-July, Air China placed an order for 20 Airbus A350-900s, in a hint that commercial needs could trump political sensitivities around the trade spat. But a Chinese order from US airframer Boeing would likely do more to dispel concerns. Even as tensions rose between the US and China, at last year's Farnborough air show a series of undisclosed orders were announced, some thought to be from Chinese carriers.
