Description
Summary:This brief highlights advances in watershed management in the People's Republic of China (PRC) and assesses how streamlining laws, expanding monitoring, and boosting data collection can improve water quality over the long term. Outlining the results of a scoping study to strengthen integrated watershed management, it analyzes water quality in 10 major river basins, groundwater, and sea areas, and lays out the major supervisory and management challenges. It recommends the PRC develops legislation, establish a comprehensive and integrated management program, and strengthen capacity to effectively reinforce its watershed and sea area management system.
