Summary: | The automotive industry in Europe has experienced a turbulent period of change during the past couple of years. Meanwhile, one major trend has quickened its pace -- the continuing thrust to globalize operations. For automotive companies, this means new manufacturing hubs appearing in a number of regions around the world. Alongside geographic expansion is the trend towards dramatic changes of ownership. During the past 20 years, there was a trend for West European car manufacturers to acquire companies to form joint venture operations with, for example, China-based car manufacturers. Today, the trend is starting to reverse as West European car manufacturers are forming alliances, rather than acquiring, and Chinese car manufacturers are actively acquiring Western car brands. A major area of attention for many supply chain professionals in Europe is effective, ongoing, B2B integration with manufacturing systems. However, finding skilled resources to run ERP/B2B integration projects smoothly is a challenge for many companies, not just in the automotive sector. |
