Summary: | In June 2010, Fairfax County adopted the Comprehensive Plan Amendment for the Tysons Corner Urban Center, a plan that uses the impetus of four new Metro rail stations scheduled to open by 2013 to transform the area into a livable urban center. For this powerfully transformative vision, and in recognition of its potential to become a poster child for the retrofitting of America's sprawling suburbs, the plan for Tysons Corner is the recipient of the 2011 Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan. The first phase of the Silver Line is under construction and, as of mid-January, five landowners have submitted applications to rezone more than 100 acres into the Planned Tysons Corner Urban District and expect to redevelop their properties with a dense mix of office, residential, retail, hotel, and civic uses. |
