Summary: | Most leaders recognize the value of multicultural diversity. In their study, Accenture found that diverse executive teams, by several measures including profitability, are more successful. There is, however, another kind of diversity that leaders need to foster and embrace -- in others and in their own thinking. It has to do with the color of their ideas. Leaders today need to lead with ideas to unleash innovation and progress. In discussing diversity with leaders, the authors stress the importance of intellectual bandwidth -- the breadth of information and knowledge to which people are receptive. Breadth matters, in the hunt for ideas. For all those seeking to boost performance and jumpstart innovation, the operative assumption should be that ideas are everywhere. |
