Summary: | Purpose: To compare the outcomes of cataract surgery performed with three different types of the epinucleus removal techniques (safe boat, infusion/aspiration (I/A) cannulas, and phacoemulsification tip). Methods: Ninety eyes with thick adhesive epinuclei were randomly subdivided into three groups according to epinucleus removal technique: epinucleus floating (safe boat) technique, 30 patients; I/A tip, 30 patients; and phaco tip, 30 patients. Intraoperative measurements included ultrasound time (UST), mean cumulative dissipated ultrasound energy (CDE), and balanced salt solution (BSS) use. Clinical measurements were made preoperatively, and at one day, one month and two months postoperatively, including the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), the central corneal thickness (CCT), and the endothelial cell count (ECC).
