Summary: | Germfree mice tolerated larger subtoxic doses of cyclophosphamide (CP) than conventional mice. Germfree mice survived long-term CP therapy, without the secondary effects of bacterial infections which appeared in CP-treated conventional mice. Large doses of CP in young AKR mice prevented or deferred the development of spontaneous lymphatic leukemia. Treatment with CP also reversed the effects and lesions of acute leukemia in older AKR mice, with significant prolongation of life. |
