Summary: | Many medications such as antidepressants and glucocorticoids are taken by patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). These medications have been known to worsen bone health. Our study compiled research and found that there are few studies on this topic for patients with MS. We suggest that patients taking these medications be monitored for bone frailty while more studies are conducted.
Many medications such as antidepressants and glucocorticoids are commonly taken by patients with MS and are known to increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures in the general population. However, our review found limited data on this topic in patients with MS. We suggest that patients taking these medications be closely monitored until further research has been completed and guidelines amended to reflect this. |
