Prolonged disturbance of consciousness following an encephalitic episode may be associated with repeated hyperperfusion in various regions resulting from mitochondrial dysfunction. NIID patients presenting with encephalitic episodes can recover gradually and spontaneously even after prolonged disturbances of consciousness. |
