Summary:Radioisotope studies have shown that collagen synthesized in the shafts of bones from rachitic rats and chicks is similar in chain composition to that normally synthesized. However, the extent of lysine hydroxylation in both alpha1- and alpha2-chains is increased, by approx. 15-30% in the rat and by 50% in the chick.
