Summary: | In a survey of 2,669 students in a sample of 8 US medical Sch's, very few indicated any interest in public health as a career. Diff's between those relatively favorably disposed towards public health & those unfavorably disposed to it were explored. Those favorably disposed appeared to be less clear in their thinking about their future as physicians, identify fewer features of an ideal job which are important to them, were less likely to have been pre-medical students as undergraduates, & are more likely to feel insecure about their standing in medical Sch. They are regarded by those students unfavorably disposed towards public health as less ambitious, less creative & less independent. This is the same sterotype they have of themselves. R. E.
