Summary: | The authors present their experience with a case with lateralized electroencephalographic abnormalities but no focal clinical neurologic deficit. A 27-year-old man was admitted to hospital with a 5-day history of headache, fever, confusion and a fluctuating level of consciousness. Examination of the cerebrospinal fluid showed signs consistent with viral encephalitis. A computerized tomographic scan of the brain was normal. An electroencephalogram (EEG) obtained at the time of admission showed poorly formed alpha waves. |
