Summary: | Since the 1970s, the improvement of diagnostic tools and the success of cardiac surgery have dramatically changed the natural history of complex congenital heart diseases. The temporal dimension of its assessment is very important because quality of life is not a stable and defined condition but one that changes. Because health is an important determinant of quality of life, a specific expression has been introduced-health related quality of life-which is suitable for applying to patients with congenital heart disease, for whom surgical correction prolongs survival but does not provide normality. |
